Black Unicorn

Black Unicorn

The Black Unicorn model is named after Howie Shapes test pilot and legendary Mentawaiian surfer ‘Kaliang’ (aka @blackpearlsurfphotography). The Black Unicorn is a close relative of the Biggie Smalls with slight tweaks to the outline, rocker and bottom resulting in a board that delivers speed and responsiveness. The Black Unicorn will suit intermediate to advanced surfers and will go best best in 2ft-4ft+ beach breaks and reef breaks.

Tail Option

Howie recommends a Rounded Squash tail for the 'Black Unicorn' model, which comes as standard. However, if you prefer an alternate / specific tail shape, be sure to place your order via our CUSTOM ORDER FORM. Outline

Narrow nose with slightly wider outline at front foot with centre point pulled back under stance with tail 12 inch point wider narrowing into smallish tail pod. This allows all the widest part of the board to be centred in between your feet for more control and less drag with less area nose and tail.

Rail

Mid soft boxy A rounder rail with less edge forward creating less friction.Sharper edge under your back foot and around the tail for drive and hold.

Concave

Single to double concave with slight vee exiting tail. Single concave deepest under front foot to keep momentum carrying through with double concave starting between your stance to break up the water with vee exiting the tail to pivot off your turns.

Rocker

Nose kicked with a lower tail rocker. This gives a lighter feeling under front foot with less nose in the water and more drive from less tail rocker allowing you to drive off more board in the water.
